Mr. Burns

July 24th, 2008 | Category: life, usa: mhs highschool 2002/03

I do not really know how to start this … i am not the type of guy who does this nor have i done this in the past, but something struck me last night and I want to tell the world about the greatest teacher in my life.

When i came back from my vacation in Mallorca/Spain last night, i turned on my computer and checked my mails. Lots of spam, but also an invitation: Becky invited you to join the Facebook group “Praying for Mr. Burns”

I stopped everything i was doing and joined that group immediately. After reading through the entire group i had to read that my former discrete math teacher mr. burns had died of brain aneurysm.

But let me start from the beginning. I came to the US as an exchange student from germany. My guest family, the watersons, lived right next to the Middletown High School.I later moved in with the Perrys. I had Mr. Burns in Discrete Maths. I am going through my stuff in this very second, .. and its like i can recall every second of his class. I remember so much of him. He once sent us to get Donuts at Dunking Donuts with his car. That was so awesome. I probably told this story to every friend i have and they all liked the story very much. Its the first story that comes to my mind when i talk about mr. burns.

I just finished browsing through my highschool stuff. I kept all of the documents, .. i even found my discrete math folder.

Here are some entries of my diary.

In maths we got Mr. Burns, probably one of the most relaxed teachers ever! He even offered me to take me around to see whats up in middletown. I must admit that i found that a little strange in the beginning, because teachers in germany would’nt even think of it. But i spoke to other students and they said that this is just the way he is! Great guy. After he brought in donuts last class, we did maths outside today. He always says that he wants us to enjoy maths and his class. Well, i received my worst quiz grade yet: 30 out of a hundred. Mr. Burns said that i probably didnt understand most of the questions, because my english is just not well enough. But he also said that the stuff i did was right. I am going to take the quiz again.

The first class was maths. Its my worst class. Its not that i hate that class, actually its the opposite. Its just that i hate maths. Mr. Burns is the best. He brought donuts for all of us, second time in a row now …

Wednesday, … first snow of the year. A lot of schools were closed, .. except for, … you know it, … mine. I did still not understand a single thing in maths. I have the biggest problems in maths whatsoever. I dont think its the language barrier anymore. Mr. Burns even gave me my incomplete test back to take it home and finish it. That guy is so awesome …

Alright, .. today i had a lot of fun. In the first period we had Mr. Burns. Last time he announced a quiz for today. Anyway, … he changed his mind. He sent 2 guys out to drive to dunkin donuts with his car!!. We all made our orders and when they came back we ate and talked about sport.

Today we had our first period at IHOP. Mr. Burns invited us. RJ picked me up at the school and we drove in his Jeep to IHOP where the others already waited. The breakfast was great, but we had only little time to eat and we didnt wanna be late for the next period.

In maths we started taking our midterm. I was joking around with “Burnie” and Katie. Katie was shaking her blond hair and she knew that she could get anything she wanted ;D . Well, … dont get it wrong, … this shaking hair thing was a joke that she was doing all over the year. Then it was my turn. I went up to Burns desk, looked in his eyes and shook my hair and asked for an A. He bursted out in tears :D

Today I got myself in really deep trouble. We had to take a quiz in the first class with Mr. Burns. I really studied hard for this quiz but as Mr. Burns left the class i went up to his table and copied the answers off his answer sheet. Well, .. no problem, .. until he came back and caught me standing right next to his desk. He then looked at me like, … well you know, … like he was very disappointed. And i felt like, … well you know how i felt. He sent me to the library where i waited for like 15 minutes. I then saw him sneaking in with a very tiny smile on his face. He came up to my table, handed me another quiz sheet and said that he would’nt do that for anybody. I finished the quit just in time.

_______________

So much for my diary entries. I Also found some pictures which i photographed off my scrapbook which we had to do at Mrs. Lendrums class. This shows some pictures of Mr. Burns and the discrete class.

Unfortunately i did not find anymore pictures. I can’t find words that could explain the way I am feeling right now. Mr. Burns was the best teacher in the world. Although I might not learned a lot from him in maths, i learned even more valuable things for life.

Hey Mr. Burns,

I hope you can read this and this will get to you somehow. Thanks for being a part of my life. Unfortunately i wont be able to make it to the ceremony. I wish i could be there. At least i am there with my prayers. We will always remember you as the nicest and best guy and we will never forget you. I will be telling your stories along the way of my life. I wished you could have come to germany one day and we could eat some sauerbraten, you always talked about that.

You will life on in our memories!

Mr Burns – The best teacher in the world
